This morning we began our Colca Canyon tour, we were picked up from the hostel and on the way the guide told us about the three mountains in Araquipa these are Picchu Picchu, Misti and Chachani. There is a myth that Picchu Picchu fell in love with C but she loved Misti and that is why C and Misti are so close together and inbetween them there is a small mountain which is supposed to be their child. Picchu Picchu went far away and cried because he was heart broken and so that is why there are salt lakes at the bottom! We took some pictures from the side of the road before heading to our next stop.
We were told again about the four types of camel in South America, the vicuña, huanaco, alpaca and llama. We stopped to see some Vicuñas and also stopped for some coca tea where there was a llama all dressed up which Browny and I thought was hilarious. After tea we also stopped to see some more llamas and alpacas.
Our next stop was at the highest point, 4910m! Here there were lots of piles of rocks that people had built and you're supposed to make a wish. There were also women selling the standard hats, jumpers and scarves you find in the markets, they must get so cold!
We finally caught a glimpse of Chivay, the town in which we were staying and headed down for some lunch - an all you can eat buffet. This allowed us to try lots of different food and they even brought out ceviche at the end so browny was pleased! The Spanish people in our group didn't like to hang around and despite not everyone else being finished got up as soon as they were done and waited by the door! Browny and I thought this was really rude and the bus driver had to get up from his meal to open the bus so they could wait in there!
We were then shown to our hostel which was cold but fine where I had a nap and browny read her book before we headed to the hot springs! These were really cool and situated on the side of the river, we headed straight for the hottest pool which was so nice and relaxing. We stayed here for a while before heading back to the hostel and playing monopoly in bed before going to a dinner show. Here they did traditional dances including one where the man dressed as a woman and another where the man dug the holes and the woman planted seeds.
After the show we headed back to the hostel and played a couple of games of cards before bed!
