In Cusco! What a lovely little place it is. It's much cooler here but lovely and warm with the sun. Reminds me of the UK in spring/early summer.
Had the best sleep in ages last night! A shame it wasn't long enough.
Left for the airport at 7am. So I was back at the airport less than 12 hours later lol!
Met and spoke to some of the group. There are a mixture of nationalities. British, American, Canadian and Norwegian. A mixture of ages.
Sat next to a Norwegian girl, Emma on the plane as well as an American guy, Michael. Yep was in the middle where I hated! Much prefer the window lol!
Spoke to Emma for a bit. She seems like a lovely girl.
Cusco is at a high altitude so we were warned that we may suffer from altitude sickness. Luckily I was fine. A shame the same can't be said for the others. One woman fainted at lunch, poor thing!
As soon as we arrived at the hotel we had to fill in some forms (boring!) then we were allocated rooms. I'm sharing with a girl called Camille who is from Windsor! So not too far from me. Think I'll be sharing with her for the duration of the trip as I shared with her last night too. She's a lovely girl.
We checked a bit of Cusco out. Held a cute baby alpaca. Well, I was forced to hold it as a Peruvian woman just shoved it in my arms! For money of course. But I wanted to hold one anyway so it was a good thing :)
We were recommended to have our main meal at lunch due to the altitude. Many of us wanted to try alpaca so we went to this lovely restaurant. Had it with wild mushrooms and it was delicious! Definitely would have it again. I recommend anyone to try it especially meat lovers.
We all split up and did our own things. Walked around Cusco with Camille and 3 other American girls. Took it easy plus we're coming back in 3 days time for 2 nights after visiting Machu Picchu.
Chilled out for a couple hours and had to pack my small bag as we can't take our big bags as there's a limit of 5kg on the train up to Aguas Calientes from Ollantaytambo. It took me ages to decide what to take as the weather can be unpredictable so have taken a mixture of summer clothes and warmer clothes.
Went out this evening with Camille and an American woman, Jodie, for a slice of cake where we had it in the park. Got cold after a while lol!
This group is very different from the last one. Both a good different in their own ways. This group is all split up in small groups and we are more independent and do our own things which is great. And a variety of people to talk to :)
The last group was great too as it was small so it was nice to hang out together most of the time and got to know each other better.
Having a very early night. Another difference, no drinking! Probably a good thing :p it also means I get more sleep so hopefully will be refreshed tomorrow ready for a long day. Off to the Sacred Valley and then Ollantaytambo. Should be a good day :)
