I went to be collected outside the hostel for my Uncle Brian's Tour to the Atherton Tablelands. Tanja from my Cape Tribulation trip was out there already and I was really pleased when i found out that she was doing the same tour as me. Then Kat who I'd met in Magnetic Island as she was travelling with another girl called Kat who I'd seen when I did my surfing lesson in Byron arrived too so we all sat together on the bus.
The guide, 'Cousin Rohan' was really funny, and a bit eccentric, which I liked. I was sat at the front with the girls and could see people's expressions in the rear-view mirror which was entertaining as when he did things like talk to the bus called Gus there were some bemused expressions, but by the end of the day everyone was loving his eccentricity!
Our first stop was the Devils Pools and we did a rainforest walk and I saw some gangy gangy which was the plant that I'd heard about the day before that gives you third degree burns. I was going to swim in the water but it was really cold so I paddled instead with Kat. Next we drove through Bubinda and beeped and waved at the locals, getting varied reactions from them (stares, smiles and big waves). The town has won a golden gumboot for having the greatest rainfall in Australia.
We then drove to Josephine Falls and slid down a rock water slide, which was really fun. Depending upon where you positioned yourself determined how quick you went so Kat and I started tame by holding hands and then worked our way up. The 'extreme' area made you go so quick that I nearly went down horizontal in the end. We then swam and finished off with some cake and juice On our next bus journey we played a game where you had to pass a polo shaped object to each other by using a matchstick that was placed in your mouth and lining up the matchstick with the person next to you to try and slide the polo onto it. Luckily I passed to two girls as I would have probably gone bright red as you had to get very close and I was already giggling loads when I passed with Tanja. When the girls passed to each other rather than the boys it was very amusing as the boys then had to pass to each other and from where I was sitting it looked like they were kissing!
We then stopped for lunch in the Atherton Tablelands which is a really lush hilly area. After a very enjoyable meal where I chatted to a French guy we went to Millaa Millaa which is the waterfall where they filled Peter Andre's song Mysterious Girl and also the Herbal Essence advert. We tried to re-enact the Herbal Essences advert by putting our heads into the water and flicking our hair back to create a water shaped rainbow. Kat and I went for a double rainbow shot too by standing opposite each other. We then swam under the waterfall.
On the next car journey we starting singing and dancing along to some music and then when we got to another small town Rohan told us to duck down to try and scare a local and then he reversed the car and told us when to jump up. We did it and there was a little granny who waved and pulled out some cuddly toy caterpillars which was really random but funny. Apparently she had seen the bus drive past her house so many times that she contacted Uncle Brian's to see if she could be involved and she is outside her house everyday that the bus goes past doing the same thing.
We then stopped off at a lake where we jumped off a platform and watched the guys jumping out of trees. We spotted turtles in the lake too, which was really amazing. After our swim we had marshmallows in hot chocolates and muffins then drove to spot platypus.
On the way back to Cairns we did some more singing and dancing again to things like YMCA. I felt sad that the day was coming to an end as it had been so much fun. I exchanged details with Kat and Tanja and then got dropped off at 8pm at the hostel.
After catching up with Stu and Andy I went to check in at my hostel Njoy Travellers Resort for my last night. I spent an hour sorting out my stuff then went to bed.
