I got picked up at 7:15am outside Gilligans for my Cape Tribulation trip. Our guide was called Roddy and really reminded me of Jack Black as he was like a big kid and so funny. He kept telling us really amusing anecdotes, stories and jokes which kept us all really entertained.
We drove to Cape Tribulation following the coastal road, whcih was beautiful. We stopped at Daintree Village for breakfast (I had a cup of tea to help keep me awake for the trip) and then got on a Wildlife River cruise to spot crocodiles. We saw a really large one and a much smaller one on the bank and was quite glad that we didn't see any in the water as I was worried that i'd see it and end up jumping and falling in the water by accident! I had a girl called Tanja come and sit next to me who was the same age as me and was from Switzerland. We then went to Marraja Boardwalk to do a walk through the rainforest, which was really interesting and we saw some really unusual trees and plants. We learnt about a plant that if you touch it burns your skin for months as the sting stays in your body for up to 12 months so I made a mental note to avoid that as well as any spider or snake. We then got on the bus again and stopped to walk to the beach and then had fish and chips in a lodge. Next, we stopped at Alexandra Range Lookout for great photo opportunities and then went to the Daintree Rainforest Wildlife Sanctuary and saw dingo puppies (which were so cute), kangaroos that you could stroke, crocodiles, lots of exotic birds and snakes. The guide shook the fence of the crocodiles to wake them up and they jumped up which was both scary and exciting.
We then drove to Port Douglas which is the richest place in Australia, which has a marina, has lots of nice shops and and an amazing hotel which has pools covering acres of the grounds. We got back to the hostel at 6:30pm after a really fun day. I went to see Grace to see if she fancied the pub crawl that was taking place that evening but when she didn't fancy it I went and asked Karen who is staying in the same room as Stu's and when she was keen we went along to meet the group who were in Shananigans but they were already dressed in their togas and had been drinking for an hour and a half already so we decided to give it a miss and join the other room-mates for their night out. After having my free dinner at the bar we sat outside and watched a singer who did an amazing version of a Mumford and Son's song. Mel and Rachel who I'd been at Fraser and Magnetic Island with were at the hostel that evening after their 2 day Cape Tribulation trip so I left the room-mates chatting in the room and joined the Irish girls in their kitchen area on the fourth floor to catch up with them. Then I said my goodbyes to Mel and Rachel and stayed in the Irish girls' dorm to have an early night to try and get over my sore throat
