We had to get up at 5:30am to get to Twin Falls before the sun came over the rocks as we were told we would roast otherwise. The road leading to Twin Falls is a dirt track which was the bumpiest road I've ever travelled along. The 4WD vehicle we were in was definitely tested to the max, as was my stamina as I was thrown around from left to right as we went through waterholes, across mud and rocks. It took us an hour to get there and I felt like I had whiplash when I got out. We were quite glad to get on the boat to get there as it was extremely tranquil in comparison. Twin Falls is one of the only waterfalls that has a beach and it was beutiful! It has huge rocks surrounding it and a white sanded beach. Unftwunately we couldn't swim in the water as it could have crcodiles in it, but it was amazing to see it anyway. We then headed to Jim Jim Falls and had to hike across rocks of varying heights for about 25 minutes. It was really hard work as the terrain was so rough but it was really fun jumping and climbing over the rocks. We were all so hot by the time we got there that we jumped straight in the water when we got there. A few of us swam over to the waterfall and stood under it. It felt like we were under a cool rain shower, which was a good way to cool down from our walk. It was so pretty looking up at the waterfall and there were rainbows on the water. We stood under it and shouted for Marc to take a picture of us. We then sat and sunbathed on some rocks and then had a leisurely swim back to join the others.
After an hour or so of being in the water we walked back towards our 4WD. We then drove back to Darwin, which took about 4 hours as the 6 day tour that I'm on is made up of two three day tours so we have to go back to Darwin to pick up more people and head down towards Alice Springs. It had been a really good three days as all the water holes had been empty as we are in the wet season. We had been really lucky with the weather as despite it being really hot (32 degrees as a minimum heat) it hadn't rained until we were on our way back to Darwin. Unfortunately the rain coincided with a toilet stop and trying to avoid being soaked I ran to the toilet block and tried running up the metal stairs not thinking about the fact that it would probably be slippery and I went flying - luckily Marc was standing on the top step and with cat like reactions he grabbed me and prevented me from falling on my face or bum.
We got back to Darwin at 7:30pm and checked into Youth Shack hostel which was definitely not the nicest hostel I'd stayed in as when I walked past the pool area to my room some unsavoury characters asked if I wanted to join them for a drink and I kindly declined - I then saw one of them later when I unfortunately walked into the men's toilets as I hadn't realised that there were two men's bathrooms next to each other on the ground floor...I'm not sure who was more shocked when he walked in to use the toilets. I then got ready to go to a bar called Monsoons to meet the group for dinner and drinks. Luke, our tour guide, wanted to see if he could get Alex, the guy from Taiwan tipsy and dared me to ask him to dance, which I did, and encouraged the others to dance too.
We left the bar at 11pm and I suddenly realised that I'd left my key card in the dorm so I tried knocking on the dorm door but no-one answered so luckily I found the night manager to let me in.
