Day 10
Liskeard
Today we drove to beautiful Cornwall. The drive was long and monotonous as we covered miles and miles of farming land and edges of cities. The traffic was heavy in places and in some respects this area seems like the Gold Coast of Australia. A popular holiday destination.
It has been raining off and on during the drive despite the fact that we awoke to a fine morning in Wales.
As the forecast is for rain all weekend we decided to go to Port Isaac (where Doc Martin is set) this evening while the rain had eased. During the drive we started to see the beauty of the Cornwall area. Rolling green hills and stunning cliff lines then forest drives feature around every corner.
We finally arrive at Port Isaac and Phil decided to try to negotiate the narrow streets. They can barely fit four people abreast and we decide to try to drive through, past the port area as seen on the show. The problem is there are oncoming vehicles. It is the most nervous I have been the entire holiday when the oncoming car didn't want to budge. He just stayed there while Phil had to park our car so close to the building wall I had to bring the mirror in.
And did I happen to mention they were filming for the show as well! Renee was so excited. We watched the filming near the school and managed to see Caroline Catz and Martin Clunes as they walked right passed us.
Phil was just as excited as Renee as we actually saw Martin Clunes close up. We hung around as they shot a scene in the fish coop. We went into the shop they use as the Pharmacy which is actually a fudge shop. We also saw the area they use as the Large's restaurant and walked up the hill to the docs house. It was just amazing it is exactly like the show and having the main characters there filming made it even more real.
We ate at a restaurant overlooking the harbour. It was very busy but definitely worth the effort.
Another good thing is now we will have tomorrow more free to explore the area
more thoroughly before we head up to Bath on Sunday.
It really has been an amazing day in this beautiful country.
