Our biker friend Mike told us he was heading to Alhambra in Granada so we decided to go there as well.. What an outstanding place this is. There are several parts to it. The fortress Alcazaba was built between the 11th and 13th centuries. The palace, Palacio Nazaries, was built for the Muslim rulers during the 13th to 15th centuries and is simply breathtaking. We were lucky to arrive just in time for the afternoon viewing and for 12 euros each we thought represented very good value. We spent two hours wandering around the beautiful grounds before heading back to Betsy. Initially when we arrived there we were pleasantly surprised to find a carpark specifically for campervans. However our two hour stint cost us 14.40 euros (nearly nzd 30). We have been trying to stay positive about Spain but we are finding increasingly difficult coping with this sort of gouging. We unfortunately left there with a bitter taste in our mouths and headed off in search of a place to stay for the night. The prices these guys charge soon shows why camping is not a popular pastime in Spain. They are all virtually empty but they still insist on charging like a wounded bull. They are by far the most expensive in Europe. We intended to go down to Malaga and maybe Gibralter but that night we decided that we head north to Valencia to make a concentrated effort to sell Betsy. If we manage to do that we will probably head to Palma to spend the last month with Brendon and Natalie.
