The sun has come out today which was an awesome birthday present! It's still cool, around 19C but the sun is shining, the butterflies are everywhere and the cicadas are singing so all is well with the world again.
We headed once more for the semi-rural Michigan Lakeside Dr following the lake South. There are some bigger towns this end of the lake, some look to be highly liveable, others a bit too touristy. In one there was a huge Bosch facility, in another the world HQ of Whirlpool.
At New Buffalo we hung a left and headed across towards Toledo. For a time it was very rural. Mostly corn and we think soy beans so maybe another bioFuel area?
We crossed briefly into Indiania. At Middlebury we noticed all the horse poo on the road before we started seeing the Amish carriages. There were quite a lot of them, driving Along the road, waiting at intersections and parked up at a supermarket and a feed store. The farms that were Amish had clusters of buildings looking like it was multi-generational. Some had carts neatly parked at their front door horses in the nearby paddock.
We stopped at an Amish farm roadside stall manned by a pregnant woman in the traditional get up. She was heavily pregnant, one on her hip and two more playing in the yard. They had some awesome looking corn on the cob, $3 for a dozen picked this morning I was told. I got a half dozen as I'm not sure we can refrigerate much more than that.
Heading further east and we were in Ohio, hi there Angela! Lol
There's not been a lot of wildlife today, squirrels, turkeys and a lone kestrel; unless you count a lot of dead raccoons or the occasional squished skunk :-(
An easy cruise got us into Maumee which is just out of Toledo. We are here for two nights, heading to the Toledo zoo and aquarium tomorrow.
We had an awesome dinner at Erma & Max restaurant with a couple of ciders. All in all a pretty good birthday :-)
