We got packed up, washed the sheets and towels, remade the bed and set off about 11am.
We took the long way around sticking close to the coast where we could passing very nice neighbourhoods, some with spectacular homes and lovely little beaches. We had a bit of a walk at West Haven Beach where several people were fishing. There are some gorgeous little towns and classic New England scenery, the ocean and lighthouses. Around Indian Head the mansions were huge!
We stopped for lunch in Old Swaybrook.
We passed a school with some cool sea creatures murals. In New London (the submarine capital of the world) there were a number of cool stone churches much like the old cathedral in Christchurch.
Mystic was kinda cool if a bit yuppy-ish. We went over a drawbridge which had massive concrete counter weights considering it was a fairly small bridge.
We crossed the border into the smallest of the U.S. States, Rhode Island. The Pell bridge over to Newport was pretty impressive, $4 toll seemed reasonable for the amount of ground it covered over a gorgeous bay.
Heading north we passed into Massachusetts. With Boston glowing in the setting sun as we passed it we crossed over a couple of impressive bridges to get to Nth Boston, our destination for the night.
Far from all but many trees are started turn. It's been a fabulous day, mid 20's and sunny. As is our usual thing we turned a two and half hour drive into an 8 hour drive but it was a great day.
