After more than 12 hours travelling including a ferry, 4 busses, and a taxi, I have finally arrived at the Siem Reap, Cambodia.
The weather is reminiscent of the typical British summer of torrential rain (yes I know it's hot back home at the moment!!)
The journey was an interesting experience. I got talking to a nice Spanish & French couple until we were separated into different busses at the Cambodian border. I was then chatting to a Vietnamese family before talking to a nice Polish couple.
It has been great talking to various Nationalities and hearing their different stories along the way.
I'd like to provide some advise to anyone travelling from Thailand to Cambodia. This advise was given to me by my German friend Lari from Darmstadt (Danka Schourn if you're reading this!!)
You most certainly can get a visa on arrival at the border, no matter what your tour guide will say. It will cost $20 (USD) and you don't need a passport photo.
The tour guide will try and say that you'll keep everyone waiting and your visa will take 5 hours to process. So they say it's quicker for them to do it for $33. This is complete rubbish, I went through the passport/visa application system quicker than the Vietnamese family and they don't even need a visa!
Also when you get your visa it'll say $20 (+50 Thai baht) do not pay the extra this is corruption money for the cops!
I hope that helps someone, somewhere!!
This information was acquired by talking and sharing experiences with other travellers. As a knock on effect I advised the Spanish couple what to do, and another Israeli girl at the border who was about to hand over the $33.
This is what I've found about travelling. As well as meeting great people, sharing knowledge is key as you will always be scammed. The general rule is, trust no one!!
That's me done for now, time for a well deserved beer!
