Hola. This is our last day in Sarria before we start the Camino proper tomorrow. Neither of us slept after 4am as our imaginations were filled with excitement and eager anticipation. Headed down for breakfast at 8ish. Met up with one youngish American woman who was travelling with her mum (she was waiting to give her mum a generous 'head-start' before she strode off to catch up with her!!). We also met an Auzzie couple; Norell and Ian; who thought our accents placed us in Sydney ("well that's close, it"s South!" exclaimed Norell with a gleeful laugh). They started The Camino from St Jean Pied-de Port, in France. They were exciting to listen to and made us wish we too began there as we had first intended. They commenced April 29. We connected immediately amidst much laughter and gaiety making us all the more eager to begin.
We set off after breakfast walking and headed straight for our gelato hangout but this time for a last cup of liquid heaven; hot delectable chocolate to the uninitiated and bocadillo, photo taking and found cherries for E .99 a kg what a find. Graized with abandonment on those and headed out of town to stretch our muscles came across a stork and her young high up on top of a powerpole. We have also noticed on our travels a vast contrast between aged buildings over 200 years in disrepair and other dwellings renovated or being renovated.
It is obvious our stomachs are attuned to the spanish heritage that we both share ( truth and legend are blurred a bit here) eating light in the morning kinda lunching with the obligatory siesta and indulging in the very late starting evening cuisine. Met up with Teri and Gloria who joined us for dinner eating a tortilla so different to back home it is like a huge omelette. Thry had carried these energy bars with them in the hope they would find us and give them to us. We exchanged contact details and hoped to meet up again at Santiago de Compostelo
