Just a short blog today as all we did was walk. Met Wayne from Cornwall and Adrian from China who is studying mechanical engineering in France and of course Norell and Ian (again as they swept past us)
Sighted a super huge slug which looked like a snail without its shell about 5-6cm. Then surprise, surprise, out in the middle of 'rural nowhere' amongst the cows, sheep, horses, and donkeys; an emu!! Yep, not your every day household pet.
There are a lot of dogs we noticed in Spain who live in apartments. They appear to be walked frequently and today as we journeyed towards Portamarin which is very rural and found dogs just lying in the middle of the road. There are some big dwellings but we learned that they housed cattle under them in the winter.
It was fascinating to see many older dwellings with gun slits on the lower level of two story houses, apparently formerly used to protect the occupants when under attack. Puts a new slant on the 'neighbour from hell'.
If you have watched the movie 'The Way' you will remember the Dutchman's consternation when he learned that the Camino can be legitimately done on bicycles. Well birth control hasn't worked and the b*****s have been breeding. At times well felt like we had inadvertently wandered onto a mountain bike derby, not a pilgrims trail. Our own consternation was some what rewarded when we witnessed one 'bikie' going sideways down the road trying to brake and make a turn in the track the he was going too fast to see. Jolly good show, chalk one up for the walkers.
We reached our destination and oh wow the accommodation - palatial. Had a quick siesta and off out to search for a coffee - hmmm we got two espressos (which suited Steve) so reordered and got it right the second time ordering 'cafe con leche'
