For some reason we pushed on east until we hit the Mosselle river at a place called Pont-a-Mousson. From there, we followed the river south to Nancy.
I think it's about time we turned south or we'll be in Germany. We've come a long way but, looking on the 'big map', we are still north of Cherbourg. We need to buy another map because we've come off the edge of the ones I brought.
The stage was very up and down. With some great descents and some long climbs. It was sunny but cool. There was a head wind for much if the day.
Happily, I managed to dry my socks and smalls by dressing the monkey in them. He has his uses.
This part of France seems devoid of English. I've not seen a single English reg car in days, unlike most other parts of France that I'm used to.
Nancy was freed from Nazi Germany by the U.S. Third Army in September 1944, during the Lorraine Campaign of World War II.
Today it's a very interesting city with some lovely buildings and open plazas.
Tonight there's a son illuminare in the main square.
I wonder who looked promising on Strictly?

Martyn You need better maps if you think Nancy is north of Cherbourg or were they distorted by whatever was poured over them last night.
Gazza Do you try to take in the 'vin de region' as you go thru an area? I'm no expert unlike yourself (give or take that Bordeaux restaurant visit debacle on that hash weekend!) but presumably you have those aside Alace wines in that area? And isn't it a classic Pinot Noir area? Shame not to try a pint or two, Gazza xx
Gazza Meant acid Alace wines!
stevejackiegreen Martyn. Maybe not Cherbourg but St Malo for sure
stevejackiegreen Gazza. I do like the Alsace wines: Riesling, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer etc. but we've not tried them yet. Jackie has some tastings planned for the Rhone valley...
Mr J Why not apply to Strictly as your next project?
Mr J When in the Rhone area don't miss: 1)Charpoutier Ermitage L'Ermite Blanc 2)Charpoutier Cote Rotie L Mordoree Treat yourselves.
Soprano xx Hi Lunchi and Piglet - following the Blog with interest - especially so when it got on to wine. I've got 4 Alsace glasses my Mum and Dad bought in Germany back in 1978! They do certainly make the wine taste better - amazing really. A bit like a nice cup of tea out of a china cup. You can't beat it ( but you can mash it). I didn't watch Strictly as we were out but the early money seems to be on the younger crop ie 1 Natalie Gumede 4-1 (Corrie) 2 Rachel Riley 5-1 (Countdown) 3 Ashley Taylor Dawson 5-1 (Hollyoaks) 4 Susanna Reid 7-1 (Brecky) and 4 Sophie Ellis-Baxter 7-1 (singer - Murder on the Dance Floor . ha ha) But I personally would put a punt on Fiona Fullerton (Bond girl) who also has a ballet background so Darcey should be kind? I hear Rebecca Addlington (Olympic gold medal swimmer) said she wanted to be involved but was overlooked? So no real stars this year and a bit B listers but Vanessa Feltz should add a bit of value and has been likened to Humpty Dumpty with hair extensions!! Not good odds at 100-1. Nice work if you can get it though. Superb ladies tennis on Sunday with Serena beating Azarenka a bit of a lamb to the slaughter really - best ladies US final in years! Nadal pulled off a magnificent win last night - I do wish he would stop sliding around the court as Im convinced doing so caused his knee ligament damage and kept him out the past 18 months. The journey thus far seems marvellous and I am loving the pictures - Keep on keeping on Lunchi and Piglet xx
