Hmm what to say about Granada. We had a little flub up because we forgot which day of the week it was and didn´t realize that the Alhambra, the castle to see in Granada, was only open certain days of the week. So we failed to get tickets to see the fabulous gardens or interiors of the palace, but we still managed to sneak a peak of the outside and wander through the main castle.
Seeing as that was our main goal and we completed it in a matter of hours, our new quest was to be lazy, eat fabulous spinach and 4 cheese pasta two days in a row (about our only real meal for weeks now) and wander around the streets of Spain on Sunday realizing everything was closed.
Being that we had an extra day before being able to book a train, we spent about 3 hours on Monday at the laundromat washing everything we owned. It cost us about $35 which seemed a little ridiculous, but we are super excited to have clean laundry.
I´ve been doing little experiments on myself to try and squash the bed bug problem, pun intended. I had to buy a new dress in Granada so I could wash all my potentially infested clothing. It was a great excuse to buy a dress though! So I have been bite free for 3 days now. Exciting, but I´m also prepared for the stupid things to be dormant and pop up at any moment. The first night in the hostel in Barcelona in my freshly laundered clothes should be the moment of truth.
While waiting for Jessie outside of a market, I managed to meet a great guy from Senegal and he introduced me to a lot of his friends and invited me to have an African meal with them. It was great to have my own personal guide to the streets of Granada. Even though it´s a relatively small town, I never would have seen the Alhambra lit up so beautifully at night if he hadn´t know where to go! Nor been able to meet people and be welcomed into their homes for meals and spanglish conversations! Let me tell you, I am in continuous awe at the ability of people in Europe to master around 5 languages simply by moving to an area and immersing themselves in the language. I am jealous, but at the same time inspired to stretch and realize my potential and learn at least one other language when I come home! Most likely Spanish because it´s the most practical at home, but I might throw in something else exotic you never know!
Off to explore Barcelona!
Well, off to explore Barcelona for a few days!
