Ok Ok, so we haven't seen any fanatical bull running yet, but the picture seemed like a classic entrance into writing about Spain. As mentioned, we headed on the overnight train to San Sebastian, Spain, right on the northern coast about an hour north of Pamplona and an hour or so west of the France border.
Jessie's cute little brother met us at 8:30 am at the train station and we wandered arond to one of few open pastry shops and chatted about our adventures so far. We gathered up his other traveling buddies and headed to the aquarium and checked out the bay for a while. It was misting and not altogether the most exciting beach weather, so we retired for four hour siestas while we waited for the weather to clear up and the shops to open.
It was nice to have a larger traveling group for a while, and to have Ben translate for us when talking to the hostel owner. Our 'hostel" was hilarious, seeing as the family had converted a couple rooms of their 5th floor apartment into overcrowded hostel rooms with 7-8 beds per 1500 square feet. It was a little cramped and we unfortunately had the under 21 group in our room who were unskilled at consuming alcohol and made quite a scene back and forth between the bathroom, along the way richocheting back and forth between the cramped bunk beds. It wasn't the greatest nights sleep ever but we survived.
The next day was gorgeous, absolutely gorgeous. We hiked up to a castle and momument of San Sebastian and later took off our shoes and headed into the ocean waters and sunk our feet into the welcoming, warm sand. After dinking around on the internet and eating in the main square, we waved goodbye to Ben and his friends and started on our own quest to find a non-existent grocery store to stock up for the train ride to Lisbon. We settled in at the train station with books and were mentally prepared to head to Lisbon.
