Not sure if I told anyone, but I have been soooo excited to come to Rome! I cant tell you how long I spent rereading the lonely planet guide book to make sure I didnt leave anything out of my to do list.
I have arrived! Yesterday around 3, checked into my hostel, climbed a bunch of stairs with my ridiculous amount of stuff, and geared up to cross some things off my list. Those included, a museum, the trevi fountain, spanish steps, barberini piazza, and lots of wandering through metro tunnels to get to all those places. Being extremely tired of pizza for dinner, I found a chinese restaurant near my hostel and ate alone, I think the owners thought it very awkward to serve someone eating alone, seeing as they put me in a room all by myself.
Anyway, my hostel was super quiet, only one other girl and we didnt have to speak seeing as we didnt know each others language.
Day two, today, has been awesome. Stepped out of the metro and my eyes grew huge as the colosseum was right in front of me. I headed to the Roman forum, to see a ridiculous amount of ruins and took lots of cheesy arm length photos of myself. After the Vittoriano unknown solider monument, I wandered to find a bank and a snack...pizza of course. But the pizza seemed moldy so I trashed it and continued searching for something else cheap. Suddenly, I found a Mcdonalds sign, so I averted my sightseeing and followed the signs with a newfound vigor. Unfortunately,I never found the Mcdonalds, but I did stumble upon the Pantheon and another museum I wanted to go to. Seeing a million gelaterias and pizza places, I figured Id succumb and buy a crepe with nutella and call that lunch. I was lucky enough to walk into the right gelateria, where the guy behind the counter spelled my name in nutella on the crepe, talked to me a bunch, and eventually asked me out to dinner. I figured, why not, a local must know a better place to eat than I and apparently the dining alone thing is not p.c. Oh yeah, and my crepe was free! I find this entire country to be hilarious.
I had some other fabulous insight into traveling this morning while I was walking, but its left me at the moment. Forgive my lack of punctuation as the Italian keyboard is a little tricky.
