Headed off to the famous Spis castle built in the 12th century as an aristocratic residence rather than a fortification. It burned down in 1780 and had deteriorated since although quite a bit of restoration work has been done since being added to the UNESCO list in 1993. It was pretty impressive as is one of the largest castles in central Europe, but I think the best bit was the magnificent view of the area which is stunningly beautiful. The downside was, as always, having to walk up hills and stairs. I'm sure our legs are as strong as Cadel Evans' now. Headed off to the Hungarian border dodging the toll roads in Slovakia as couldn't work out their payment system. Once we got to the border we headed straight for Budapest on the motorway as this system was easier to decipher as could do it all on line. (We hope we did it right anyway, otherwise we will have some hefty fines coming our way). Our apartment in Budapest is great and Oliver the owner was very helpful. We even have aircon which is proving a godsend as 32 today and 35 forecast tomorrow. Decided to spend the evening planning the next couple of days and working out public transport as we are about 3km out of town. Found a little shop up the road so Stevie got some cold beer and heading for the pizza take away across the road very soon.
