Day 112 - Monday 21st June
Watched an enthralling opening to Wimbledon as the Colombian qualifier Falla took Federer to 5 sets...Bumped into Lyndsey from Buenos Aires in the street and persuaded her two Irish friends Kiran and Kevin (the source of much confusion) to take the boat with us. There'd been some complications with double counting Oli and myself and so we'd have to wait until Thursday to leave. Checked out the old town for rest of the day and spent the evening at the local (very very noisy) salsa bar...
Day 113 - Tuesday 22nd June
Got a tour to a mud volcano down the road...very very strange. Small steep sided hill with a pool of mud at the top. Too thick to swim, you slide in and get literally pushed around like a barge by the workers. You can't touch the bottom but you float and it's impossible to get pushed down. Very odd. And afterwards you get washed off by some local women in the river...stopped on the way back by the Caribbean in an EXTREMELY hot bay, literally like taking a bath...
Day 114 - Wednesday 23rd June
Watched England finally scrape a win against Slovenia and qualify for the next round. Paid Israel for the boat trip and spent the afternoon around the fort Castillo San Felipe De Barajas, where the Spanish fought off Pirates of the Caribbean and prevented Old Cartegena from ever being taken. Finally had some room mates to share the 12 bed dorm!!
Day 115 - Thursday 24th June
Quick call home for Rik's birthday and headed out with our stuff to the Marina. We'd accumulated two more crewmen, Sam the Canadian and Yann from Uruguay. Watching the football on the dockside it got later and later for the final permissions to leave until we ran out of time. Captain Israel bought us food to compensate and we spent a very warm night chilling on the boat...
Day 116 - Friday 25th June
Motored out of a glistening harbour early doors and squeezed through a 4m gap in the underwater wall that the Spanish had laid across the whole harbour...out into the open water we sailed slowly along with South America slipping into the silent distance. Really peaceful with nothing from horizon to horizon except for the occasional flying fish. That was until a beautiful sunset when dolphins started jumping in the distance and making for the boat. They swam alongside the bow for a good 20 minutes and it was absolutely awesome. Loved it.
Day 117 - Saturday 26th June
Nothing ALL day. Just read and watched the world/sea go by. The only other note was fixing the rotor when the trailing fishing line got caught up. So strange to swim in the open ocean!! Also did a night shift while the captain and first mate slept, so peaceful! And by morning we'd reached the San Blas...
