Day 158 - Friday 6th August
Took the first boat over to the Caribbean Island of Caye Caulker. Now firmly in Belize I'll explain that everyone speaks Caribbean English and despite being granted independence 29 years ago, the money still bears the Queen's (younger) image. Unbelizable!! (Sorry)
Another distinctly Caribbean island, it's very long and thin. A hurricane wiped out a 10m section in the middle now known as the split with strong tides running in either direction at different times of day. Perfect spot to build a bar for drunk people to swim around. After a siesta and buying a Belize football shirt I met up with Kieran again!! This time along with his girlfriend who kindly couriered across my new debit card thanks to Dad's hard work and organisation!
Day 159 - Saturday 7th August
Absolutely fantastic day's snorkel tour. The first site saw us swimming inches away from turtles, the second holding onto and tickling 3m nurse sharks (apparently they love it) and the third saw us luckily finding elusive Manatees, the cow of the sea. All sorts of other amazing fish and coral we got to freedive down through some coral tunnels too. Dangerous but ho hum!
After some lekke creole chicken and unlimited rum punch with a large lady called Fran we ended up at a bar that turned into Karaoke. A Barry White-esque 'DJ Patch' led proceedings and Boyz2Men and John Denver brought the house down...
Day 160 - Sunday 8th August
Transit day. First boat back to the mainland, bus up to the border, ditched at border, local collectivo and taxi to terminal to take me up to sitting on a decent bus on the way up to the Mayan ruin/beach town of Tulum for some cave diving! Plans have changed so only have 8 days before I fly home from Mexico on the 16th!!
