I won't be updating the blog as often as I have been, but I will still be keeping some sort of diary be it weekly or monthly I am unsure still!
Friday 17th - Friday 24th August
We have arrived in Perth, on first impressions, its FREEZING! Ok maybe not to UK standards but it is cold compared to Asia.
We have had a wander around Perth CBD (the city centre) which is pretty small, but the suburbs go on for miles and miles and miles…
We have completed our tasks of getting a bank account, tax file number and an Aussie mobile number! Was quite easy actually!
We have also sent our CV's off to a million job agencies, so hopefully something will come up. I have got an interview for next Tuesday with a shipping company where I'll be doing billing. Similar work to what I did in Jet Club. Just got to remember what work is now?!
The hostel is ok; we're in Northbridge, a bit of a scabby place, with bars and a lot of noise. The beds didn't look too inviting when we first got here, but now they are possibly one of the most comfy beds ever! The people living here are messy and noisy which is a pain. The worst was when the German guy in our room came in drunk complaining about noise last night from our room and proceeded to shout at 1am. At 2am I was awoken again to find this guy climbing on top of me trying to find the ladder, so he claims. I was not impressed and proceed to tell him what I thought! I have since warned Stu that if I scream during the night he is to wake up and deal with him in a manly fashion!
It feels weird walking out and about here; it doesn't quite feel like Australia, I'm not sure what I was expecting. Maybe the heat of the sun, beaches (which we are close to actually) and kangaroos! I feel like I'm in Toronto waiting to fly home after the volcano erupting!
We had an excursion to Fremantle which was lovely and went to the shipwreck gallery museum, which was free. We can only afford to visit free things at the moment! It was interesting, and we sat on the sea wall for a while enjoying the sea breeze.
We are still trying to get our heads around our new situation but it is quite hard. The first few days I felt like I was at home but without my family, maybe I was a little homesick. One of the few times I have been, but I think I have gotten over it again. We have gotten into a little routine now. Wake up between 8 - 9:30am, get washed and dressed, have toast. Then either go for an excursion or to the CBD and then return for some lunch, ham sandwiches, go to the internet café (we have befriended them all and get free internet!), go to Coles (local supermarket) and pick up any food we need mainly bread and fruit! Return to the hostel and park our bums infront of the TV until 5:30 - 6pm where we make dinner. After dinner sit back down and watch the movie on, go to bed. Sounds boring, but we are trying to be up and in a routine ready for when we get a job!
Australia is still behind the times, I thought when people said this it was untrue, but it is very true. I feel like I'm back in the 90's, I quite liked the 90's but still. There is no real 'free' Wi-Fi, you have to pay, luckily we have befriended the internet café people and we use it for free! Woo hoo!! The shops, mainly in the suburbs, don't open on a Sunday? What the hell?!!! I'm used to walking out at 11 - 12pm to the 7-Eleven in Asia and getting a pineapple pie! But not here! It's taking a bit to get used to, but I'm sure will get our heads around it soon enough!
