Thursday 1st January - Sunday 10th May 2015
Luckily I didn't have to work on New Years day which was great! Did a lot in January, went on a staff trip to Kicking Horse with Tim and Andrew. Unfortunately the conditions were horrific and everyone was struggling! Ice everywhere, which was a shame as the first time I went to the resort I had so much fun exploring and wanted to show the boys where I went. On the way home there had been a few rocks had fallen onto the road and the bus hit it! Waking everyone up and Andrew thinking we were in a ditch!!
Our other trips included going to Panorama which was amazing! Had a load of snow recently which meant for a lot of fun in the trees! We all got lost from each other, I ended up on the stupid T-Bar lift which I failed miserably at going up! Was pretty funny once I made it to the top. Apparently I was the first one back, had no idea where anyone else was. Andrew was waist deep in snow in someone's back yard! Had no idea where Matt or Darren ended up!
Australia Day came around which was pretty full on! Considering 90% of people in Banff are Australian. We headed to Toque and partied till late into the morning! I think this was one of the best nights I've had out in a long time in Banff! It was a brilliant night and felt it the next day for sure!
The warehouse had their Greek night, which was awesome! Went to the Balkan and had a Greek feast and some Greek dancing! The belly dancer got the boys up and dancing, it was amazing! The best part was the plate smashing! The night continued well into the night and we ended up doing karaoke at the pump and tap!
The biggest achievement I managed was doing the Derlium Dive which is in bounds back country skiing! I had all my avalanche gear on and headed up for the hike to the Dive. It was a tough walk up maybe the altitude was getting to me! The walk back down was horrific, I nearly killed myself and took out Elysee at the same time! Dodgy track and rope as a rail was not fun, at one point I was sliding down, board in one hand and hand on the rope. Sliding out of control, nearly went over the back side of the mountain down the massive cliff!! The worst part was dropping into the Dive as it was really steep! But I made it all the way to the bottom without causing any avalanches! Always a bonus! Really tough riding but so worth it in the end!
Ainslie, Andrew and I went to Revelstoke which was a great weekend! We rented a huge car, and picked Ainslie up in Golden and had dinner before heading towards Revvie. It is an awesome mountain, but the conditions weren't that great but it was still a great few days! The drive was the worst part, especially in the dark and not being able to see the side of roads because of the snow! But we had a great time and enjoyed ourselves!
The gondola crew had a great race, which was hilarious! From the top of divide all the way to the bottom gondola station and getting your pass scanned. I was working at the bottom but watching Emily running around get her pass scanned in bright pink trousers and Cam falling over on the pavement was well worth working today! In the end Alasdair won in the end! Matt Brown crashed out on the ski out!
I completed my avalanche course which was two days of learning about causes and how to help someone in a avalanche. It was pretty scary how the chances of survival of being caught in an avalanche is pretty scary. You have to reach someone within 10 minutes otherwise their chances of survival decrease by the minute, If there is more than one body and one is closer to the surface, you concentrate all your man power to that person as they have a higher life expectancy. Pretty horrible to think that person could be your friend. I passed the course so you can all feel a little safer that I know what to do!
I also went to Jasper with Andrew after work, and stopped at all the stop along the way. We saw Peyto lake, which was all covered with ice and in the shape of a wolf's head which is pretty cool! We also stopped along at all the waterfalls that were partially frozen. Which is so different as I have never seen a frozen waterfall ever!
We stayed in a hotel in Jasper and spent the next two days boarding at Marmot ski resort which was so much fun! They had a fair bit of fresh snow which was awesome! The mountain is awesome, it actually has to be one of my favourite mountains I think!
We stopped at Maligne Canyon on the way back to Banff, which was an interesting walk considering how icy is was! Even my boots weren't any help! We also stopped by Johnston Canyon which was a lot worse than Maligne Canyon! Andrew had to help me back up the canyon as it was so icy!
Been up to Kootenay National Park and walked Marble Canyon, it was pretty damp and wet and still had a fair amount of snow everywhere! Had a little walk around the canyon as far as we could go with all the snow and ice everywhere!
So my parents came out which was awesome! We spent a week around Banff showing them all the sights and taking them up to Sunshine to ski. It was possibly one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life!
Went up Sulphur mountain, had lunch at Sunshine, went on a horse ride down Sundance canyon. I had the most misbehaved horse which is just typical! But the ride was really good and had an enjoyable time, getting off the horse wasn't as good! Haven't been horse riding for a while so my legs were killing me!
Also went to Canmore and went on a helicopter ride around the Three Sisters peaks. It was awesome! My first time in a helicopter! I got to sit in the front seat which was awesome! Got some amazing views of Canmore and the surrounding mountains. Pity it was a short flight but I enjoyed every minute of it!
We had a drive up to Lake Minnewanka and around Two Jack Lake and Johnston Lake too. Saw plenty of wildlife along the way too. No bears though!
