We set off on our trip to Jasper, our first stop was Peyto lake, which was still covered in ice! We still had to walk the long way round, which was still covered with snow! Its hard work walking through slushy snow! Mum wasn't too happy about the situation! But I think she enjoyed the view!
Just after Peyto lake we saw our first, of many, black bears! He was just casually strolling across the road! He was a pretty big bear and didn't seemed bother by the cars stopping around him!
We stopped along all the waterfalls along the way, saw a couple more bears, long horned sheep and some elk! Luckily it isn't peak tourist season yet so the road was still pretty quiet! The scenery has changed a fair bit since March! But the mountains are still covered with a lot of snow!
We arrived at our hotel in Jasper and went to Evil Dave's for dinner, it was actually really good!
We went to Maligne Canyon the day after, I accidentally took mum on a huge hike round the canyon, I think she might kill me soon! Its the most I have seen of the canyon since last time it was frozen everywhere and I just slipped everywhere! I bumped into Andy, Kate, Ainslie, Nick, Tash and a load more from Sunshine at the canyon which was so random!
We drove to Maligne Lake as the road has finally been opened after the winter. The road was extremely long and wound round the mountains. We passed Medicine Lake, also called the vanishing lake, which is only temporarily there as it drains out every year. Maligne Lake was still frozen over and the tourist restaurant was still shut until the following weekend!
We saw another black bear on our way back into town, I think we saw a total of 7 bears over the few days in Jasper! We went to Lake Edith and Lake Agnes near to the Jasper Fairmont Lodge.
We headed up towards the Jasper Sky Tram, one giant tram-like carriage on each side hauled you up the Whistlers Mountain at 2,277m. It gave you a great view of Jasper Town, Athabasca river and all the bright blue lakes below. It was actually pretty impressive look out!
We headed back into town and up to Patricia Lake and Pyramid Lake which is just in the Jasper town townsite.
We went back to Evil Dave's for dinner as we enjoyed it that much!!
We headed back to Lake Louise today, we first stopped at the Athabasca falls, which was now in full flow and not frozen any more! It was actually pretty impressive. Saw a few more bears on the way home of course!
We stopped off for the night at Lake Louise, but the hotel wasn't to my parents liking. To be fair it was a poorly designed room and the WiFi was useless! Oh well! We left the next morning and decided to go back to Banff a day early!
On the way to Banff we stopped off at Lake Louise, which was now unfrozen! It looked so nice, the deep blue water and Mount Victoria standing in the background.
It was so nice seeing my parents and getting to spend time with them. I'm glad I had been to all the places we went to so I could be their unofficial guide!
