Soongies' Great Adventure
Our day started with breakfast in Sean and Emily's trendy Oslonian apartment which involved using a cheese slicer - one of Norway's best inventions! We also had freshly brewed filter coffee Norwegian style thanks to Sean. Emily had to go to work so we said goodbyes to her and got packed and ready to go. Kate had booked a 9 am appointment at a podiatrist nearby so she was the next to leave while Calvin and Tim loaded up the car. Sean, Calvin and Tim walked the 15 minutes past the palace to the podiatrist to meet Kate there. Kate's first Norwegian experience of podiatry was not quite how she expected it to go. When she arrived at the clinic, she saw the word "Lavendelklinikken" (Lavender Clinic) on the window and thought, "Hmmm. This probably isn't a proper podiatrist". The 'podiatrist', dressed in a purple gown, soon brought a tub of warm water smelling of lavender and soon Kate is receiving a lovely foot massage! Turns out this 'podiatrist' is just someone who cuts toe nails and does foot massages and didn't really know anything about biomechanics! After that experience, the four headed to a cafe for morning tea enjoying a cinnamon bun and coffee (Tim's 3rd coffee by 9:30 am!) at Java Espresso Bar. We headed back to the apartment and said farewell to Sean and drove off to Gothenburg, Sweden. Back in the land of blue and yellow! There were 2 stops on the way - McDonald's for lunch and IKEA for a zipper duffel bag and frozen yoghurt! Life achievement - going to IKEA in Sweden! Once we got to Gothenburg, laziness hit hard so it took us a while to get out of our Airbnb and brace the cold air to explore the city. We did get to do a load of laundry though and our host kindly said he could put our washing in the dryer while we were out! Getting into the city was difficult - there was direct bus nearby but we couldn't buy a ticket on board. We tried downloading an app but the app didn't work. Thought about taking an Uber but thought it might be too expensive. Then we settled on walking in but after about 10 metres, discovered a shop where we could get single transport ride tickets. SEK 29 per single ride. After some indecisions, we caught the tram into Central Gothenburg station. Gothenburg itself was a nice enough city however it wasn't overly spectacular. We searched for dinner and came across Yammy, a Japanese and Korean restaurant. The food was satisfying - vegetarian spring rolls, kimchi ramen, udon noodles, and Mongolian noodles. Then it was back to our Airbnb by bus and settled in for a night of Backpacker.
