Soongies' Great Adventure
Cooler sleeping conditions - thanks to the air conditioning. Kate seemed to have some stomach troubles last night which were still hanging around in the morning. Decided we might need to do a bit of exercise after sitting for so long in the car yesterday so we swam a few laps at the pool in the camp before fattening ourselves, we'll actually, just Calvin, at the buffet breakfast. Kate's stomach was still feeling a little bit poorly and she didn't have too much to eat. We drove east from Halali camp and made it to a few waterholes but most of them were pretty dry and not much action happening around them. Also, our Corolla didn't seem to like the rocky terrain to the waterholes as much as a Prado would... We did get to see more elephants, zebras and giraffes along with other imapala and beests, particularly around Springbokfontein and Okerfontein waterholes. There were 3 elephant encounters today: 1. We were driving along and saw an elephant on the side of the road scrounging around for food. There were no other cars around at the time and Kate really needed to pee, which she did right next to the car, just before about 10 cars pulled up to watch the elephant! The elephant must have smelled it because it crossed the road right in front of us and stood next to our car, about 5 metres away! 2. We were driving along the main road and saw an elephant close to the side road so we turned onto the road and pulled up about 30 metres away from it. Again, we saw an elephant crossing the road - only this time, it started coming towards us!! And it shook its head facing towards us so we thought it was angry and started walking a little bit quicker! We thought it was going to stomp on the car and we didn't know if we should reverse or beep or flash lights because it might have made it more angry! Thankfully, it just wandered over to the side to find some more grass to pull at. 3. We were down at the Moringa Waterhole this evening and there must have been a bushfire somewhere because there was a lot of smoky haze around. It was so quiet at the waterhole and there were no animals at first. Then about 7 pm, after only waiting for 5 minutes, we heard a loud trumpet a little bit off in the distance. All of a sudden, we saw about 20 elephants, including baby ones, come running into the clearing and splashing into the waterhole. It was unreal to see them all drinking, bathing, and playing.

Vicki This is amazing! Your so lucky
kentishclan OK that elephant video had both Trystan and I sweating. Seeing as you didn't get crushed to death... it was soooo cool! If you are wondering if people want to hear and see all this stuff - let me reassure you that I certainly do! It's a gift you provide to those currently unable to spend quality partner / family time seeing the wide and wonderful world. The 5 mins of reading your blog forces me out of the mental space of 'daily grind' and I really appreciate it :)
gen I don't believe it !!
Soma Great coverage guys. Enjoying your feed. We just have to rename some of those animals. Now that you're African we can't have you not naming them right
soongies Soma - you'll have to give us the real names!
soongies We didn't believe it either at first! So real though!
soongies Glad you're enjoying it Cory! Elephant had me panicking! In my head I was imagining it coming and flipping the car over!
