Today we took 2 local (50 yr old!) buses to Air Keroh - a park/lake some 30-40 mins away. We went via Melaka Sentral bus station which was busy but not as busy as when we came from KL during Ramadan! Wanting to sample some of the crazier things on offer in Melaka we decided to have a massage, try some food stall delights and ride the ubiquitous trishaw. Laptop almost restored! We started our tour of the town by exploring Bukit China, this is an extensive Chinese burial ground north of the old town. Paul captured a photo of a yellow bird in the trees here. We walked round the old town which is testimony to Melaka's colonial past featuring the remnants of a 16th Century Portuguese fort and several red Dutch buildings (in Red/Dutch square) from the 17th century. Hello from Melaka! We have spent the last couple of days exploring this World Heritage town. Like Georgetown, Melaka has a lot of history linked to its colonial past and its status as a major trading port. Melaka has a pretty riverfront and characterful shops and restaurants.
