Shaun on the Road
After a total of about seven weeks in Ecuador I am on the road again. I have certainly had a good time here, learned a lot of Spanish, a little bit of Salsa, and met a lot of really cool people who, of course, you can never get to know as well as you would like to.
A few highlights of the rest of my time in Ecuador are:
-Took a bike trip to Mount Cotopaxi, which consisted of being driven to the base of the mountain and riding a bike downhill. It was great but for the last half hour we were in the pouring rain. Lots of fun but really cold, especially at that altitude.
-Went to the largest market in Ecuador and spent way too much money (on my budget) on Christmas gifts for my family. They better love me. Actually, I had a lot of fun bartering for the items. It is amazing how you will scrap over just a couple of dollars. Must be a pride thing.
-Made a couple of bad spanish mistakes that could have got me into trouble. The first time I asked some people if they wanted me with strong sexual connotations, and the second time I called the Pope a potato. Very funny.
-Only go sick once the whole time that I was here. Just call me iron stomach man.
-Went to an Ecuadorian prison to visit a foreign national. Very interesting.
-Almost killed a motorcyclist when I got out of a cab without looking and clipped him with the door. He wiped out on the sidewalk, breaking several lights. I appologized and he said it was alright. I got out of there super fast before he could change his mind.
-Attended a soccer game between Ecuador and Peru. It was a draw, but the stadium was packed. There were about 45,000 people in a stadium that, in Canada, would only be allowed 20,000 - 25,000 people.
I am sure that I did more here in Ecuador, but that is all you are getting for now. See you at the next postcard!
