Our trip from Cuenca across the border to Mancora was a 9 hour journey from the beautiful green mountain to the burnt out, dry coastline of Peru's border and Mancora. This border crossing was possibly our easiest and quickest only about 30 minuets and no fees.
We arrived into Mancora at about 3pm and grabbed a tuk tuk to our accommodation Kon Tiki bungalows. The tuk tuk journey was a little bit of an adventure up a dusty path to a ridge overlooking Mancora. At one stage Phil was told to move over to Shane's side of the tuk tuk to add her considerable weight (" Ouch!!! Shane just justifiably got a slap for that") to give the wheels more grip for getting up the hill. We made it and it was worth it, the view from our room was pretty spectacular over looking Mancora town which stretched out to the Pacific. The only down side to the place was the windy dirt path back down to the town which was challenging at times.
Mancora is a surfer's town based fully around the tourist trade. We just decided to have a chilled few days, just lounging in our hammocks looking at the surfers in the ocean. Lowlight was the little mice that would not stay out of the room, despite Phil hoping they would!!! Highlight of the stay was our dinner on the second night. Phil had beef ravioli with a creamy sauce and Shane had pan seared tuna with a red onion and red pepper marmalade on crisp bread TASTY!!! We even splashed out and had a mango and cookie dessert which was the best dessert we've had so far! And it cost us all of 12e not bad.
The following day was just taken up by a swim watching the kite surfer (which I might have to try in Indonesia- Shane) and a nice stroll along the beach. Oh yeah and more lounging in a hammock!!!!
Now it's onto a 17hour 1165km bus journey to Lima and then change onto a 4 hour 235km bus journey to Pisco.....FUN FUN!!!
