We spent a couple of days wandering around Buenos Aires, seeing the historical buildings before we went north again to check out Iguazu Falls. It really was just a stop to break up all the travelling!
We got into Puerto Iguazu after our 20 hour bus ride from Buenos Aires...the first thing we noticed was the heat!!! It is around 30c and with some humidity thrown in....sweaty!! Luckily our hostel was only 2 blocks from the bus station, and even though we took the scenic route there it still wasn't too bad!
Our main reason for being up here is to see the infamous Iguazu Falls, one of the wonders of the world! So we booked a trip to head to Brazil to see them from that side first (and gain a stamp in our passport!!!)
We set off early in the morning, got through immigration and arrived into the Brazil side. Brazil only has 30 % of the falls, but what they do offer is a good overview of them! So we set off along a trail getting our first glimpse of the Falls. As you can see from the pictures the falls are impressive and this was a nice taster of what was to come the next day!!
We then headed into Paraguay, no stamp this time, but we can still say we were there!!!:) There is a duty free zone where you can get cheaper goods, so we decided it was time to replace the waterproof camera, which had been broken for a while....We got this at a good price and then we got a bonus pressie of a fishing rod!!! (Obviously the 'we' in this is slightly weighted in one persons favour!!!!) So for the grand total of 20 euro Shane is all set to catch our dinner when we are travelling in NZ!!!
From there we headed to the worlds 4th biggest dam, Itaipu. It has 20 generators, each producing 14000 mw and it took 14 years to build. This produces energy for both Brazil and Paraguay. There were lots of interesting facts and figures told to us by the tour guide...unfortunately this was another tour in Spanish so all we could do was take a few pictures!!!!
From there we headed back to Argentina, completing our 3 countries in a day!!!
Up next a full day devoted to the Argentina side of Iguazu Falls.
