What followed was a super relaxing week in a lovely little resort on Bunaken Island. We were basically either snorkelling, there was an amazing reef that was right in front of the resort, or else we were relaxing in the hammocks!! Tough life we hear you all saying!!!
It was some of the best snorkelling that we have done, with shed loads of colourful and different fish, the highlight of which was the lionfish and puffer fish, as well as turtles, stingrays and crabs. Shane continued to work on his free diving, getting further and further down....at one point he was in line with the divers!!! Not sure he was the kind of fish they had gone looking for!!! Hopefully we have captured some of it in the pictures...but basically this place is amazing and we would totally recommend it!!
The only scary part was trying to get on and off the transfer boat in Manado...it was basically walking the plank with our luggage!!! It was steep and moving the whole time, so we had visions of joining the dead fish floating in the water next to the boat!! Luckily we all managed to navigate this challenge successfully.
We think Audrey and Mark enjoyed their final week with us, and we were sad to say goodbye to them at the airport. We are now back to the original 2!
We clearly were affected being on our own again, as we turned up a day early for our flight to Malaysia, after the scariest taxi ride ever.....how we didn't crash is a miracle!!! Additionally the driver was chatting to his friends, and every so often put Shane on the phone to them and laughed as he did it!!!!
Luckily a day early is better than a day late!!! Unfortunately it lead to one of our less desirable accommodation choices!!!! The bathroom had no sink, a shower that didn't work and a toilet that didn't flush!!! The beds had plastic all over them, so the sheets slipped off and made a lot of noise and the windows were slatted glass with nice big gaps in them to let in all the noise!!! As if this wasn't enough on its own, at 2.10am we had a knock on the door for our 3pm lift to the airport...not the wakeup call we wanted!!! After telling them we wanted to go to the airport at 3pm, they left.....only to return at 3am and begin knocking again!!!! After getting rid of them again we got a small bit of sleep before morning prayer began....and then the stampede for breakfast kept us awake!!!! Luckily we then headed to the airport and got on the correct flight without any further drama!!!:)
