So once we had enough Bintang, we decided to move to Nusa Lembongan, described in the Lonely Planet, as the Bali many imagine but never find!! Sounded like it was just the place for us! So we set off on another boat that would drop us onto the beach in Lembongan.
At first we weren't convinced by Shanes decision on the accommodation, out front it was a ramshackle shop and then a billiards hall....but luckily just behind this there we a few really nice, new rooms!! A perfect base for us for the next few days!
After a lovely sunset happy hour drink, Shane did a bit of bargaining and got us a deal on a snorkel trip, based on us not telling anyone else, as of course we would be the only ones getting a deal!!!:) So the next morning we were off, stopping twice on the way so that the driver could give blessings from the boat....first up was Manta Point...where we were lucky enough to swim with a 9 foot manta ray...it really was amazing...it was so graceful moving around, inhaling the plankton as it went....it was hard to stop watching it...even though there were a few scary moments when it seemed to be swimming right at, or under, us!!! It really was one of the highlights of our time in Asia so far!! If only we could see them every snorkel!!!
From there we headed to a couple more spots to see some more fish, different to the fish we had already seen so that's always good. The last spot was very impressive; it's a wall of coral and fish that you can just drift along with the tide. We basically got dropped off at the start and then picked up at the end....seeing loads along the way!
From the fun of snorkelling we decided to challenge ourselves the next day by trying surfing!!! This was great fun, but so tiring!!! After our lesson on the surfboard cut-outs in the back of the shop we were ready for the real thing....so out to 'Playgrounds' we went!!! The surf here is off the beach so we got a boat out there and then began attempting to stand up for real!!! In fairness over the 2 hours we all managed to get up and ride the surfboard to some extent!!! It was great fun, even the few times when the waves just take you out! We have a new found respect for all those who surf as it really is not easy. The only downside to this was that we were all very sore and tired....and worse of all sunburnt!! Clearly the backs of our legs were not used to that kind of exposure!!!(Bar Shane of course, who at this stage doesn't really count as being normal!!!)
The knock on effect was that the next day we couldn't really move!!!Well Phil, Aud and Mark had def been better!!! Shane and Trev weren't suffering too much so decided to head off on a scooter for the day! They explored the island, checking out the mangroves, catching a couple of fish and having what started as 1 scary moment, but cultivated in a few scary moments on the bike!!! The bike didn't have to be back until later that evening, and Phil was feeling brave and decided to tick the bike section off the list of things to do, so went for a little spin on the bike too. We headed up to sunset point, which would have been perfect except that it was very cloudy that evening....oh and it also meant coming down a hill on the return!!! Needless to say the breaks were tested to their limit!!!
We chilled for the rest of our time on the island, with Trev getting in another surf lesson, and Mark and Audrey doing a bit of shopping. From there it was a short ferry to Sanur, where we would spend our last night before Trev headed home and we went north to Sulawesi.
Again our time here was fairly low key, we took a stroll along the beach, only to be scared away by the amount of vendors who are trying to sell you things! That was pretty much it for our time here, apart from a bit of shopping and some really yummy food!!!
The next day we said goodbye to Trev and got our delayed flight up to Manado.
