The night train was def an improvement on the sleeper buses, once you got used to the rocking!!! So we got up to Sapa nice and early, this is the main tourist spot in North Vietnam, a steep valley full of rice terraces like nothing else! Our time up there was spent walking about the rice terraces, into different villages, being amazed at what they farm....and having our heads wrecked by the very insistent local women selling anything and everything!! We basically stopped in Hue to break up the journey to Hanoi, so it was only a brief overnight stop here. We strolled around the old moated citadel ending with dinner at the waterfront where we tried a Vietnamese Hot Pot. This is basically where you are given a little pot on a burner with flavoured broth inside and you cook the seafood and greens as you go! So we got to try some squid, clams, prawns, pork and tofu....tasty and different! Next day it was the over...

So we had our first experience of the famous 'sleeper' buses going from HCMC to Nha Trang...they are cosy to say the least!!! Not really designed for people of our size!! It is basically 3 rows of 'bunk beds' on a bus, you can see from the pictures what they are like...but yeah a journey on them is interesting!!! The journey into Vietnam was painless for Asian travel.....we actually ended up being taken back to Phnom Phen and having to change buses, not too much of a hassle, but we didn't know anything about it till it happened which I guess is part of the fun!!!..Oh that and the loud karaoke which keeps you company the whole time on the buses!!!
