For the bus to Antigua we treated ourselves to the first class service....this involved seats that reclined to almost beds....although the bus had a few hairy moments...including a random crash into something in the middle of the night..we did manage a decent sleep.
Once we had chosen our hostel we took a stroll around Antigua. It's another lovely city, very similar to San Cristobal in Mexico. We decided to continue our exercise regime after Tikal the day before. We chose to do a tour that afternoon which was climbing Pacaya Volcano.
After an hour and a half winding up mountains we reached our place to park up and start climbing! It was clearly very quiet as local kids offered horses as ´natural taxi´ rides up the volcano. We imagine they usually ask for the first few minutes but these followed us for ages, which was very annoying!!!....especially when it's a hard walk, and the horse is breathing down your neck...We decided that no matter how hard it was, under no circumstance would we get a ´natural taxi´. It really was hard at times, we definitely felt the burn!!! But it was well worth it!
Views here are amazing....and toasting marshmallows on the volcanoes natural heat has to be one of the highlights so far. We had a lovely sunset as well as an impressive lightening storm to watch from the rim.
