We headed to the national park early enough the next morning. We have seen from the Brazil side that the crowds never go away so decided not to get up at the crack of dawn to get out there!!!
Once inside we planned our route and set off!! We went along the lower route first, seeing a few smaller waterfalls and a lot of rainforest, birds, butterflies etc. The main attraction is undoubtedly the falls, but the national park is a really nice area to walk around, with lots of wildlife around the easy walking tracks.
Once we had the lower route done we headed to the embankment area where we were going to take a boat ride to get a closer look at the falls, and also experience how powerful they are!!! As you can see from the video, we had a small shower under the waterfall....and when we say small, we mean we were totally drenched from head to toe!!! Luckily they give you a very waterproof bag for your things, and also advice you to put your shoes into it!!! We did as we were told, so luckily didn't have wet feet for the day!!!
So once we got off the boat, we decided to head over to San Martin Island, a small island in the middle of the falls, which not everyone goes to. We decided to try and dry off a little as soon as we got over there and picked a lovely peaceful spot for lunch. The only thing causing us concern was the lizards that kept appearing out of nowhere!! Again it was an amazing lunch spot, which allowed us to really enjoy the falls and how lucky we were to be there.
Once the loop of this island was done it was back onto a little boat to take us back to where the main waterfalls are. We hit the upper trail next, getting to see all the falls that we had seen from the boat from a different angle. It is amazing the amount of water going down these falls. And the peacefulness that there is behind the cliff edge!!
We had left the big one till the end, getting the train up to see the Devils Throat once we had covered the rest of the park. We had seen this from the Brazil side so to be honest we weren't expecting to be all that impressed by it again. But it is amazing!! The sounds, the amount of water, the mist coming up off the falls.....definitely well worth its reputation!!! We have got it on video and pictures so hopefully you can all picture it well! You can see why it's called the Devils Throat cause if you went in there you most definitely won't come out alive!!
This was the end of a really good day spent in the national park. We felt like we walked a lot, and we could have done with another dip in the waterfall by the end, but it was spectacular and we would recommend anyone in the area to go and see it!!!

Alexandra W To say that I am jealous would be an understatement. It sounds like you had an amazing day! Reminded me a bit of Xelha in Mexico that we went to... I know obviously totally different, but the closest thing I know to relate it to. Sounds like the two of you really are having the trip of a life time together! Keep all the blog entries coming!!! xxx
