We Set off around 10am from Curitiba for a short two and a half hour bus ride. We arrived at the port where a boat leaves every hour paid
30 reals return which was cheap and set of to the island. We was buzzing the island only let's 3000 people on at one time and we were in, boom.
We went with no accommodation booked which I like its more of an adventure, no plan is the best plan, but not all of the time as Knate keeps telling me. We wondered around and found a few apartments but they were all to expensive and are serious lack of Portuguese meant haggling was a no go. We went back to the port and set off in a different direction this time we found a hostel that was good money and right on the beach, result!
Bags dumped we set of to explore the island, there are no cars on thd island do it was since break from relentless traffic we had experienced in the past. After a few hours of trekking around the sandy paths we stumbled across the lighthouse which offered the best views of the island panos taken, view admired we returned to the hostel.
I was determined to get back into running and the hard sand on the beach offered a perfect place for a run. After waiting for the sun to go down I was off, I completed a 5 mile run down the isolated beach which was amazing the location was stunning and the running bug was back, result!
As there is no supermarkets on the island we had to go out for something to eat. There are no lights on the island at night which makes it an adventure to get around, the trusty iPhone touch did the job and we found somewhere to eat. We ordered breaded hake that came with the hottest chilli sauce known to man, I manned up and had a go, It felt like my face was on fire much to the amusement of the waiter.
The next day we was leaving at four and I was determined to get back out for another run along the beach, So I manned up and took on the midday heat, another five miles done and I was happy and ridiculously sweaty. We went to the Internet cafe to find the computers were sick which was surprising as we were on an isolated island and call other Internet cafes in big cities had been s***, so I got back on track and uploaded a load of photos to fb.
We then set off for the boat we didn't have a rerun ticket for the bus but it turned out all good in the end. We got a local bus and some nice people told us where to get off for Curitiba.
That was a short productive trip to Ilha do Mel no it's off to Santos for my birthday, party time!
