Buzzing like you wouldn't believe we arrived in Rio at around 3.30. A half an hour taxi ride through some crazy traffic got us to the hostel. We were expecting a grimy s***hole, hostel world reviews were not good and the price was ridiculously cheap for carnival so we were expecting prices to get jacked up.
Dispute all the pessimism things turned out all good. The price was right, which worked out a tenner a night which is properly the best priced hostel in rio. The dorm wasn't a sweat box, it was actually one of the best we had stayed in, result!
We head out on the metro to get are bearings before it got dark. The metro was clean and easy to use, the station was only as two minute walk away, a few stops and we hit coco cabana, we had a wonder, hit the beach then returned to the hostel. The evening was filled by researching lonely planet which got me well excited, an early ish night was on the cards for a fresh jam packed day tomorrow.
The first full day in rio! The weather was unreal we head out to cocoabana beach to some up the rays and see the delights of the beach, which did not disappoint.
We walked up and down the iconic path which was filled with colourful characters, looking at weirdos is one of my favourite pass times. We saw the most unreal sandcastle with exquisite detail.
After a lot of walking we needed a stop of so I funky bar on the beach front with the football was the perfect stop. After a few drinks we noticed that the bar was full of women, most of them looked filth. We then clicked on the bar was full of prostitutes what initially have it away was a good looking girl talking to a ginger. We had a few more tring are best not to make eye contact with any of the ho's. A few came over to talk to us but I got rid my telling them I was a homeless crackhead with money.
We returned the hostel was planning on chilling then we saw a group of people playing ring of fire, we obviously had to join in. We hit the town again with are new mates and once again the night fades away from me.....
Waking up feeling a little worse for wear we miss the free breakie and decide to hot the beach. A few dips in the sea and I'm clear of a hangover, we decided to go up sugar loaf. First we hit the pro bar for some lunch and a checks refreshing beer and set off. The walk was never ending up a massive hill and down some crack den back street road full of sleeping taxi drivers and tramps. Eventually we made it which was good because we wanted to catch sunset.
The cable cars were really impressive in seconds you were way up in the air dangling over the road. The views were amazing from the first level. We went up to the second level to watch the sun drop, with a beer obviously. Up there we saw the Uruguay sacks kept it short and sweet with them and got back to the views which were fantastic you would see for miles.
The next day the madness of carnival would begin and we wanted to be fresh do it was an early night!
