Saz and Dave's travels
Today we checked out of the mild bungalow at 10am as we were off to Koh Samui. We were picked up by a Songthauw which was very cramped and made unbearable by the constant twitter of one very overenthusiastic Spanish girl and am equally irritating Canadian bloke who kept squashing me with his hairy leg. We were then dumped at some holding bay for confused travellers and told our coach to Surat Thani (where we would get the ferry to Koh Samui from) was not leaving until 12am. It was now 10:20am so we were not best pleased. We managed to pass the time playing cards before we finally got on the coach which looked like it was actually designed for leprechauns as the seats were so close together!
The journey to Surat Thani took about 4 hours and was very hot and sticky.
At Surat Thani we left the coach and got onto a ferry where we got some very wide, comfy plastic seats. It was lovely sitting there chilling until the sun moved and started to cook us row by row!
We arrived at Koh Samui at around 6:30pm and looked for a taxi to take us to our accommodation in Bophut on the North of the island. Luckily one materialised fairly quickly and drove us quite rapidly for about 40 minutes after which he stopped and we realised that we must have arrived. There seemed to be not much around and we had to follow a stony track for about 5 minutes before we arrived at the Coconut Calm beach bungalows. After locating the reception we waited for ages before someone took an interest in us and gave us our key. Our bungalow was ok - it smelled a bit musty but was pretty clean apart from an infestation of ants in the bathroom. We also realised that the blinds were see-through so had to hang our sarongs and towels over every window so we could get changed in privacy. When I went out to check if the blinds were now opaque I heard a bell and looked up the path to see a mad looking dog tearing towards me. I jumped out of my skin, thinking it was coming to attack me and leapt up the steps to our bungalow leaving Dave to wonder what the hell was wrong!
We finally went for some food at about 8pm at the restaurant next to reception - about 1 minute from our bungalow. We were very impressed by the sight that awaited us. The tables we right on the sand on the beach, meters from the sea, lit up by flaming torches stuck in the sand. Lights were twinkling in the trees and Jack Johnson was playing on the stereo. We sat down to a spectacular meal and began to relax after a pretty tiring day
