As it was our last day in Beijing we wanted to complete the main attractions to see so tiananmen square was on our list. We decided to get up a bit earlier than we usually do to make most of the day. All of us were ready to go but at last moment Charlene couldn't find her padlock key to gain access to her backpack. We opted to help get to try to find it but after 15 minutes or so I suggested checking her backpack, there it was wrapped up in her blue towel! Eventually we set off leaving our backpacks in the luggage room provided by the hostel. We decided to go to temple of heaven by subway. Once we arrived I thought it was lovely to breath in all of these fresh trees sweeping with wind after the congested pollution in the city of beijing. We paid 15 yuan to get in, we saw some nice temples, some of different shapes and size. I saw some Chinese workers knitting their wool to create various of things such as resembling elephants, dragon and so on. It was interesting to watch them knitting with three sticks instead of two. I was thirsty and saw a ice cream which was vanilla cornetto! Was happy to see some familiar ice cream! We moved on to subway after a couple of hours in the temple of heaven. After arriving at tiananmen square, It was bigger than I thought. The history it holds is quite special to Chinese people and culture. I didn't even know who the Chinese man was on the portrait at the entrance, Asher didn't as well but the Chinese seemed to worship his picture. Afterwards we went back to the hostel and got our backpacks from the luggage room and embarked on our next stage of journey, shanghai, there was 13 long hours on sleeper train ahead of us to shanghai. The train was quite unusual because it was supposed to be soft sleeper but it actually felt like a hard sleeper to be honest! Besides we still had a exciting journey from Beijing to shanghai because two of us girls discovered that we were sharing 4 berth room with two middle aged men from Algeria, one was a teacher who was lovely and spoke English, French and Arabic. His friend only could speak a little English with Arabic who was also nice. Me and Charlene didn't go to toilet all way through the journey because the toilets was terrible, and Asher felt he had to have a number two but he couldn't do it because of how unhygienic the toilets was.
