Arrived in Beijing after nearly missing the flight! Decided to share a taxi between the five of us, i was amazed to see that it would cost us 550 yuan, but we decided that we wanted to get there asap as we were incredibly tired after a 10.5 hours flight. During the journey to the forbidden city hostel, I saw so many different things such as how poor they was, the buildings was literally falling apart however nearer to the Beijing city centre, it was reasonable as it was cleaner, some of it was nice with these original untouched features. I would say I was surprised at how it was not what I expected. These fumes around the city was terrible, full of unhygienic stuff and my skin became sticky after a couple of hours. I barely could see the sun! After we arrived at the hostel, I was given two room keys. We discovered later that the 3 boys was in the dorm room and us girls was in a standard private room, it made me' feel more comfortable being in Beijing. We wandered around the city, after couple of minutes we was in what looked like a park but there was some people lying on benches and floors, some of them had holes in the socks, I thought to myself why are they lying there at midday?! but then we got out of the park and saw the sign for 'emergency shelter' :-/ So far, the stay in Beijing is not too bad but I definitely can't wait to go to other place which would be shanghai on ninth after dropping our plan to go to Xian first seeing that the sleeper train tickets was not available. X

Judy Hi Sara, glad that you have all arrived safe, sounds like the adventure has started already!!. Remember to be street wise at all times, keep an eye on your surroundings and what the people around you are doing. That is vital. Beijing sounds like an exciting place and i think its amazing that all of you have got it together to make this journey. Peter Hi Judy, Yes Ashley managed to let me know by email me after I texted him urgently but it is too expensive for anyone in China to make text so I hope they are encourage to use email for outgoing message only subject to available of WIFI while they still can receive any incoming text.
