Spent the morning re-planning my trip and sorting out tickets for the next week. At lunchtime I went with 4 girls from the hostel - Rose, Fennie, Caroline and Maddie - to a small local restaurant to have dumplings. Rose speaks fluent Chinese and so it was nice to not have to struggle to get what I wanted to eat! After lunch Rose, Fennie and I got a taxi to go to one of the local villages, Dongba. It took about half an hour to get there, but when we did arrive they wanted 105 yuan each for an entrance fee. We all felt this was a bit excessive and went back to ask the taxi driver if she new of any back ways into the village. She didn't, but told us she could take us to another village which was less spoiled by tourism and was one of the poorest villages in Ligiang. True to her word, the village was beautiful - all of the houses were made out of stones and wood and looked picturesque but simple. We stayed for about an hour and then headed back to Lijiang as Fennie had some surveys to carry out in the town - she is currently doing a thesis on Tourism in Lijiang. I went off to explore the old town for a couple of hours and then bumped into Fennie and Rose completing the surveys in the market square. We walked back to the hostel together and then Rose left for her bus. Fennie and I went back to the old town for dinner and then met with a Chinese guy we had met earlier who wanted us to help him correct the English in a survey he had been putting together.
