Hello from some pretty amazing views! We've travelled for a couple of hours up to the Ngorongoro Crater which offers stunning views across Lake Magadi.
We've arrived at Simba Camp which is quite a nice camp site but we're really high up so it is quite cold! I've had the coldest shower yet-one which actually gave me brain freeze but the hair needed washing!
We sat down with some chicken stir fry :-) yum, before heading off for an early night amongst more wildlife :-/ once again there's lions, elephants, hyenas and pretty much everything roaming around us! Same rules apply: do not leave your tent, if you have to pee, pee next to your tent and quickly! And most importantly no food in your tents! Did you get that last one? No food in your tents as it attracts the hyenas...
So! Me and vic headed to our tent and wrapped up warm for a pretty cold night ahead...awoke at just gone midnight to the sound of hyenas near our tents-for the second night running! Only difference was dumb arse me didn't remove her pringles so spent the whole night wide awake thinking I was hyena food! I was that scared I slept with them in my sleeping bag and hoped the hyenas wouldn't smell them :-/ one of my worst nights yet but I'm alive to tell the tale so I can laugh about it now!!!
After a sleepless night we was up at 5:45 to pack our tents up and grab some breakfast before heading into the crater for an early game drive.I didn't realise how many animals lived in there! It was like an oasis for them, perfect grass and a gorgeous lake.
Our first spot was the vast amounts of zebra and wilderbeasts followed by many hyenas, jackals, rhinos, elephants and the most amazing lions! These were sprawled out over the tracks lazily resting in the sun! We drove right up next to them and they barely even moved! After a few photos we left them in peace and stopped by Hippo lake for drinks and a snack. We sat on the shores of the lake watching the hippos whilst eating a sandwich when suddenly the hugest bird came out of nowhere and swiped it out my hand! Totally s*** myself and lost my sandwich...gutted but at least I still had my fingers!! Just!!
All in all the game drive was awesome, the camping was fun (now I look back!) and the crater is stunning! But it's time to head onwards.
Next stop Zanzibar island via Arusha!
P.S yesterday a bird s*** on my shoulder
