Etosha National Park was our first main stop in Namibia but we had two nights on route-one right next to the lake, full of crocodiles and the other on a farm full of chickens! I was actually pleased to arrive at the campsite in Etosha it was amazing (well as far as campsites go!) showers (hot!) and a swimming pool.We set up our tents and headed to the pool which was freezing! Only had a very quick dip! Later in the afternoon we headed off on a game drive, we saw loads of zebras (disco donkeys), giraffes including a really cute baby one and loads of antelope.
In the evening we celebrates Andy's 21st birthday-beers,drinking games and of course a cake! Tea was yum,we had oryx steaks which were actually really nice-slightly weary at first!! And get this-for all of you who have lunched with me on a Sunday at White hart when I'm hanging you will not believe this...I now eat coleslaw!! Yes that rank stuff that I insisted could not be on my plate even, actually made it's way into my mouth...verdict...ok,would eat it again (in very small quantities) but it still smells and it isn't on the top of my list :-) with a hangover I think it should still stay away from my plate lol!
Anyway back to Etosha....
After a few drinks and a complaint from the miserable german lady most people headed to bed,we were up at 5am for an early morning game drive before heading to a different campsite in the national park. The game drive was pretty cool, we saw more giraffes, quite a few lions, one with cubs and also two cheetah's hunting a really small antelope (was cool to see but I was a typical girl, I felt really sorry for the antelope-it was tiny and didn't stand a chance! Bless it!) kind of turned away at that point!
We continued our game drive which then led us to a campsite for lunch and part of the afternoon.Me and vic headed to the waterhole first which was really peaceful so stayed and wrote our postcards to you lucky people :-) then we headed back to the camp for lunch where we met three great friends-Jacob,Cream and Cracker! Three cute little squirrels that we hand fed-wait for it, Jacobs cream crackers to lol hence the names! Ok so yes were sad but still it was entertaining!
Later in the afternoon it was another game drive and a journey to our campsite for the night. We saw more lions etc etc really cool male ones :-) and giraffes with their bums in the air hehe!
The campsite was nice, we arrived at mosquito feeding time though :-/ we pitched our tents, had spag bol for tea, had a visit from a couple of jackals, then headed late on to the waterhole which was huge and again very peaceful. We sat there until I was falling asleep lol then headed back to our tents...it was another early start as we made our way to Swakopmund via Cheetah Farm.
Cheetah Farm was cool, we arrived mid afternoon and set up camp for the night then headed to the house to meet the owners and their three cheetahs-bit weird to see 3cheetahs roaming freely around the garden! They had rescued them all at different times, all as cubs who had lost their mums or been abandoned. They were all fairly tame which meant we could stroke them-they were huge :-/ wasn't a massive fan of getting too close, I was still convinced they wanted to eat me!
We then headed off to see the wild cheetahs and watched them feed-bit gross and I wasn't impressed that the guy chucked raw meat in our direction, made me gip slightly! Overall it was interesting to see but cheetahs are cheetahs and I'm still convinced they want to kill me! I was happy to get back to the camp and into the bar...although the stuffed warthog bum and elephants fifth leg did make me wonder what kind of place I was sat drinking in! Hmmm! I have to say though-i know there big but it was massive, huge, I swear they put extra stuffing in it hahaha
Anyway....we left the next day and made our way to Swakopmund for a bit of normality and a proper bed! The excitement is all a bit too much :-) x
