I woke up early had a great night sleep in the new hotel & I went for a morning workout in the gym! The breakfast was great in the hotel same again nobody really spoke English but we muddled through. We got an Uber into the historic centre of Salvador I was pretty anxious & we didn’t take much with us just in case, the drive was pretty intimidating through some very rundown areas with lots of homeless in big groups it wasn’t nice to see. Pelourinho is one of Salvador’s treasures. The narrow streets are full of colourful buildings & reflect a lot of Brazilian history. The main plaza was busy with tourists & locals enjoying a drink in the sunshine, there were armed police on almost every corner which has been increased over the last few years to try & prevent crime & make the city safer. We walked down the cobbled streets it was like a journey back in time, the colonial architecture & historic churches made the area feel so unique. We watched a family playing drums where Michael Jackson had filmed his video for ‘They don’t care about us’ with the local drummers Olodum! Kurt joined in for a picture & tried to play with them! We walked back up to the main plaza & had a late lunch in one of the nice busy restaurants, it was mainly a seafood restaurant & the menu was in Portuguese so took a guess & ended up with Spicy shrimps & some fish croquettes the food was really good & the beer was cheap too bonus! We got a local registered taxi back to the hotel. We had a few gins in the hotel bar which was really smart.
