These rainbow lorikeets seem to be at every campsite that we stay at! They were happily feeding out of Andys hand one morning!
On our drive down to Hervey Bay we were intrigued by a sign on the motorway for 'Snakes Downunder', so much so that we pulled off and went to investigate. We weren't dissapointed when we saw a snake show involving the worlds deadliest snakes (all of which are found in Oz!). After seeing a whole bus full of school kids rising to the challenge, we felt brave and got to hold a baby croc and a python! Woohoo!
At the start of this week we went on a tour of Fraser Island in a 4 x 4. As it is a sand island, the ride over the dunes/beach/tracks was interesting to say the least. I'd liken it to being driven over the surface of the moon with huge craters all over the place.
On the first day we walked through a rainforest and marvelled at lots of old trees, then top a dip in Lake Mackenzie which actually makes your hair and skin softer due to its acidity levels. The sand makes a great exfoliator also, so one Japanese woman found as she sat on the beach putting handfuls of sand into a plastic bag to take home.
After the tour we drove down to the Australia Zoo and saw the Steve Irwin memorial. As we saw a tribute video in the Crocoseum I had a tear in my eye. He was a cool bloke and won't be forgotten.
