We have just finished the last leg of our mammoth East Coast road trip, and have had to return the much loved but very camp campervan :(
After a short stay in Brisbane - which was a culture shock after weeks of not seeing anyone else on the roads and only passing through towns consisting of a road house and village shop - we headed on to Byron Bay and took a walk down the cliffs to the most easterly point of the mainland. Now we are both pretty comfortable with the idea that Australia is home to every imaginable deadly creature, we are pretty ok with the idea of seeing things out and about on our travels. So when I saw what I thought was a snake in the path in front of me I wasn't that bothered! Luckily it turned out to be a massive lizard which quickly ran off, so we were ok!
After Byron Bay we had a couple more stop offs to break up the long drive. Surfers Paradise was a bit of a concerte jungle, although the beach was stunning. We were starting to get a little over exposed from the coast, as lovely as it is, so we decided to head inland and visit the Hunter Valley vineyards. This was a bonus when we had a late afternoon wine tasting session. Very nice, although this wasn't enough and we needed some kind of hardcore activity to keep us going!
...So off to the Blue Mountains and a day of abseiling and rock climbing. Fantastic! We had a great day complete with bruises all over and aching limbs. We topped it off that night by cooking kangaroo steaks on the BBQ, which were pretty nice.
We are back in Sydney now for a few days rest. Loving the weather and the fact I have a great tan and the sun is making me blonde! The people are really nice and friendly and always stop to have a chat with us. We love the Aussies!
