We originally had planned to stop in Blenheim, however whilst driving through our first impressions weren't great and it was still pretty early so we continued driving towards Nelson and set up camp there for the night.
Unfortunately, despite supposedly being the sunniest place in NZ, we woke up to a lot of rain. We put off taking down the tent but eventually had to bite the bullet. Matt and Caroline, our friends from Wanaka are moving to this area and happened to be in Nelson too so we caught up in a warm cafe and escaped the rain. By the time we left the rain had stopped and through Matt's recommendation we took a walk up to the centre point of New Zealand where there were also pretty good views of Nelson. We have been to the most Southern point of NZ too, so now there is just the most Northern point of New Zealand for us to visit!
As I am writing this blog, I am currently sunbathing in a park surrounded by camping stuff that is drying out and we have just cooked up a lunch on the stove... Feeling like a real dirt bag traveller haha. Samuel is in the skatepark opposite so he's pretty happy right now!
This evening we are heading up the road slightly to Mapua where we are going to experience our first taste of woofing. There are a lot of things we want to do in this area so we would like to be here for a week or so before we cross the waters to the North island.
