Hello there again! It's been a while but after 14 months of being settled in Wanaka (which was very hard to leave!!) we are on the road again, so with a request from the Mumma,we have decided to start up the blog again.
We hit the road on15th October after some emotional goodbyes. We headed up the East coast as we have already had a few little lovely holidays in the South and West Coast. Our first destination was Akaroa, a beautiful French town. However we decided to break up the journey by staying the night in Geraldine. There isn't much in Geraldine but there is a beautifully located DOC campsite. DOC campsites are great anyway as they tend to be in sweet locations and generally are free / cost up to $12 a night. Anyway it was a good start to our road trip as it was a beautiful evening whilst we set up camp by the river and got a fire going!
The next day we set off to Akaroa which is a very quaint little seaside town. It almost reminded us of home as we sat at the harbour eating fish and chips, whilst being surrounded by evil looking seagulls.
It was just a short trip to Akaroa before heading to Christchurch that same evening. Our first impressions of it weren't all that great as we really aren't used to traffic these days. Our impressions changed the next day though when we got a real chance to check it out. There is still a lot of work that needs doing since the devastation from the 2011 earthquake, however you can definitely see the potential and we found a few little pretty spots. Some of it does have quite a sad feel to it though!
Samuel of course needed to check out the huge skate park there whilst I turned into a bit of a lobster in the 28 degree heat.We then set off for Kaikoura that afternoon :)
