Greetings from Belfast!
We have had an amazing day today!
We started out by visiting the Free Derry Museum in Derry. It was such a moving experience. I said to John that after visiting so many historic sites in all the different places we've been to in 6 weeks, it was so meaningful to us to visit a historic site that commemorates an event that happened in our lifetime. It was Bloody Sunday on 30 January 1972. I was 15 and John was 17.
The events that happened that day were horrific. We both remember watching them unfold on the TV news in Sydney. To tour that Museum this morning was both heartbreaking and very touching. We chatted to the gentleman running the Museum and he said his younger brother, Michael Kelly, was killed by the British Army Paras on that day. He was 17 years old. We bought the book called 'Bloody Sunday in Pictures'. I can't wait to have the time to read it.
Our next stop was the Giant's Causeway. Wait until you see these photos!!! Utterly amazing!
We then drove on to Belfast and boy oh boy, did we score well with our B&B! Absolutely beautiful! The host directed us to Benedict's pub for dinner because they have this great deal called 'Beat the Clock'. It runs between 5:30 and 7:00 and it means that if you order dinner between those times, your meal will cost the same as the time. We had an incredible restaurant meal at 5:30, so our meals cost £5:30. Put together with - John: 2 Guinness's + 1 glass of wine and Sadie: 2 cocktails + 3 glasses of wine and we had one helluva an evening!
Tomorrow we're booked in for the Titanic Tour and then we're off to Newry!
Hope you are all enjoying my blog!
Love to all
