Ross and Natalie's Travel Journal
Our next destination was the spectacular limestone mountain valley of Vang Vieng. We stayed in the most amazing bungalows right on the Nam Xong river overlooking the impressive mountains. A morning dip in the clean river waters was a must and we spent 4 glorious days here with our new mates. We visited caves in the surrounding areas and was directed to a cave by a French man where we hired bikes. The journey there was the longest and most tiresome journey to a not so fantastic cave that we looked for for hours...pretty pissed off!! We then visited another cave which was supposed to lead to a blue lagoon on the other side...about 40min of slippery walking in the pitch black cave the guide told us that we could not go any further because of the water level was too high...mmm...wish he told us that at the start!! We also did the tubing here which consists of floating down the Nam Xong on huge tractor inner tubes....loads of fun. Not 5 min down the river and you reached your first bar and zip slide. We all did the first zip slide but further down was the 30 m high zip slide and swing. The boys obviously did this one with smiles on their faces but for us girls it was a terrifying experience. I was shaking after completing the swing!! We had a few beers on the way down through the rapids and was mesmerized by the beautiful mountain surroundings...had a brilliant time!!
