Ross and Natalie's Travel Journal
We travelled north to the city of Lauang Prabang which is a World Heritage site. The town is beautiful with French-Indochinese architecture, rich in culture and sacred Budha images. It's the most Lao city in Laos with a distinctly village like feel. we stayed on the Mekong river with amazing sunset views. The food was fab and the mile long night market was filled with traditional arts, crafts and everything Lao. We found a small cinema where you we hired the room and watch films. Ross and Mark played PS games while Bonnie and I went for a traditional Lao massage. It made us laugh when we saw the Phu-Si Temple (pronounced p**** , Phu-Si mountain, Phu-Si hotel and Phu-Si massage...We also did a great day trip to the biggest waterfall in Laos. We where introduced to a 6 year old Bengal tiger that was rescued when she was a baby. We got there at feeding time and we where able to feed this amazing animal buffalo meat...we touched her fur and just stared at her beauty. They also had a bunch of Asian bears in the sanctuary that was rescued after there mothers where killed and we fed them banana's. It is great to see them walking on their 2 back feet...just like us...he he!!
From Louang Prabang the four of us went on a two day trip to the jungle of eastern Laos. We lived the "Life of a Machau" which means the life of a elephant carer. This was another highlight of our travels. We spent two days riding on the heads, feeding, washing and playing with three Asian Elephants. We slept outside and the only thing that protected us from the jungle wild was a mosquito net. I went flying off the elephant twice and had more laughter that minor injuries....it was fantastic!!
