Ross and Natalie's Travel Journal
To top off our adventurous travels in Laos we headed for the far east of Laos to a town called Louang Namtha. Here we booked a 2 day trek to the jungle and a home stay at a traditional Lao village. The first day we walked for about 6 hours through rough jungle terrain with lovely fauna and flaura. All went well until we came close to the wet areas of the jungle. What is in a jungle where it is nice and moist and humid....LEECHES!!! Bloody hell!! We where all attacked by these slimy things. After putting my hand over my trousers I felt two leeches on my thighs and completely freeked out...it was awful!! We reached the home stay and the boys played football with the village children and we had traditional Lao food and a dip in the Mekong. The second day was an 8 hour walk and it was pouring down. Our guide had to hack a new path for us through the jungle for the river destroyed it. The leeches was on the kill to the extreme and poor Mark's feet was pouring of blood after the leeches feasted on him. It was a very hard trek and probable the hardest thing we have done so far but a fantastic experience!!!
